blimey X was a 2 day exhibition marking the 10th year of this Darlington-based artist collective.
Work included over 200 postcard sized artwork from over 100 artists from near and far, including; Darlington, Middlesbrough, Stockton, Co.Durham, Leeds, Cumbria, Northumberland, Manchester, Sheffield, Durham, Sunderland, Newcastle and Switzerland.
10 of these artworks were selected to be reproduced and printed as commemorative postcards which were available and free to visitors during the exhibition. The selected artists included; Tim McNeilly, Jonny Lancaster, Sharon Simpson, Richard Collier, Carole Thorne, Nicola Golightly, Charity Waistell, James D Robinson, Stephen Muzynski and Stephen Hardy.
The blimey X exhibition was a great success, with over 200 visitors over the course of the weekend, visiting the two day exhibition.
The preview event included the announcement of the winner of the blimey! £500 prize – Carole Thorne for her work ‘The Gathering’ (see image below). The event was well attended with Pimms and cake on offer, as well as the chance to pick up one of the 10 printed postcards.
During the two day exhibition visitors could vote for their favourite artwork, with the winner of the public vote being awarded a further £500 prize.
With 172 votes cast in total, Sharon Simpson received the public prize for her work ‘Three’s a Crowd’ (see image below).
